Special Status Plant Surveys
Sebastopol meadowfoam
(Limnanthes vinculans)
- Jane Valerius Environmental Consulting conducts surveys for special-status plants in accordance with California Department of Fish & Wildlife, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and California Native Plant Society guidelines.
- These guidelines require that surveys be conducted during the time of year when the species is most identifiable, which typically is when the plant is in flower.
- If references sites are available, these will be used to establish that the species is in flower and identifiable.
Burke's goldfield
(Lasthenia burkei)
- Surveys must be floristic in nature, meaning that every plant observed must be identified to the level required to determine its rarity status.
- The number and timing of the site visits must be determined by geographic location, plant community types present and weather patterns of the year(s) in which the surveys are conducted.
- Surveys are conducted using systematic field techniques to ensure a thorough coverage of all areas.
- Jane has conducted special-status plant surveys in all the Bay Area counties and has surveyed in desert communities south in San Bernardino County and mountain communities in the north in Shasta and Siskiyou counties.
- Jane has also conducted plant surveys in Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Arizona.
